Glossary: T |
T1 Carrier |
A digital transmission system operating at 1.544-Mbps and used to carry a DS1 signal format.
T1 Digital Multiplexer (T1DM) |
A unit that multiplexes 23 channels of 64-kbps signals into one 1.544-Mbps signal. The remaining time slot (channel 24) is used by the multiplexer for synchronization alarm and overhead data.
TAD |
Terminal Adapter
Test access digroup (TAD) |
A digroup that connects the DTAU to the test system. The TAD does not carry service traffic; it only carries testing traffic.

Telnet |
The standard TCP/IP remote login protocol specified in RFC-854. Using Telnet a user can work from a personal computer as if it were a terminal attached to another machine by a hardwired line.
Terminal server |
An electronic device containing communication ports that may be configured in various ways in order to serve various types of devices. Normally used to obtain increased routing efficiency among such devices as display terminals modems and computers.
Test node |
The Hekimian and third party equipment located at a remote site. This equipment accesses and tests communication systems.
Test resource nodes |
Circuit access points that contain circuit access equipment test equipment and system controller interface equipment. During circuit testing testers select appropriate test resources. A Test Resource Status display lists these resources.
TestDSL™ |
Hekimian’s comprehensive approach to remote and automated prequalification installation and maintenance testing of DSL lines.
Tester workstations |
Workstations equipped with video terminals that are either directly or indirectly linked to the system controller equipment through modems line concentrators or controllers.
TGMN |
Trunk Group Member Number
TGN |
Trunk Group Number
Threshold |
A numerical count under or over which a circuit performance event is to be reported.
TIC |
Test Interface Controller
TID |
Target Identifier
Time division multiplexing (TDM) |
The process of combining a number of digital signals into a single digital stream by an orderly assignment of time slots.
Time domain reflectometry (TDR) testing |
A testing method that utilizes a time domain reflectometer to locate shorts opens bridge taps and other anomalies on a circuit.
TINT |
TIRKS Interface Module (used with the SMA AWM PM Integrator and REACT systems)
Tip and ring conductors |
The two conductors associated with a two-wire cable pair.

Transaction Language 1 (TL1) |
TL1 is a language developed primarily for an OS-to-NE/NS interface and is based on the syntax of ITU-T Human-Machine Language.
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) |
A set of protocols for connecting dissimilar computers across networks.
Transmission level point (TLP) |
A specification in decibels of the relative power at a particular point in a transmission system compared with the level at an identified zero-level transmission point.
Trunk |
A dedicated circuit that interconnects two switching centers or central offices.
