Glossary: M |
M13 |
DS1-to-DS3 Multiplexer
M13 Framing (DS3 M13) |
An asynchronous framing format that uses all 21 DS3 M-frame C-bits for bit stuffing indicators; the standard M13 format cannot provide end-to-end path parity information or datalink capability.
MAC |
Medium Access Control
Macro |
A previously recorded or programmed set of instructions that automatically execute one after another. The main purpose of macros is to provide automatic test procedures.
MAP |
Minimum Acceptable Performance
Mapping |
In network operations the logical association of one set of values such as addresses on one network with quantities or values of another set such as devices on another network. Includes name-address mapping internetwork-route mapping and protocol-to-protocol mapping.
MARTS |
Metallic Access Remote Test System
Master/slave testing |
A test method that allows end-to-end testing without a second operator. A test set (master) at one end controls a test set (slave) at the other end of the line under test.

Monitor access testing |
Nonintrusive circuit testing performed without splitting the circuit to put the test equipment in-line with the tested signal.
Monitor/Matrix Unit (M/MU) |
An optional component in either a DTAU or Mini-DTAU. It performs basic scanned monitoring of T1 lines.

Multiframe |
A set of consecutive frames in which the relative position of each frame can be identified.
Multifrequency signaling |
An inband address signaling method between offices. In this method 10 decimal digits and 5 auxiliary signals are represented by selecting two frequencies out of the following group: 700 900 1100 1300 1500 and 1700 Hz.
Multipoint circuit |
A customer circuit providing simultaneous transmission among more than two end points. Usually one end point is the control point.
Multipoint Junction Unit (MJU) |
A unit that links three or more segments of a multipoint circuit at a DDS hub office.
