Glossary: C |
C-bit parity (DS3 CBP) |
A framing format derived from M13. Unlike M13, the C-bits are redefined to allow end-to-end path performance monitoring of the DS3 signal and out-of-band (not payload) data links. |
C-Message noise |
Noise level measured on a channel in the absence of signal (voiceband). |
C-Notched noise |
Noise level measured with a 1004-Hz signal present, but removed at the measurement end (voiceband). |

CenterOp Activate™ |
A Hekimian system that automatically inventories and maintains a database of known network elements and interfaces with them to control the setup, release, and modification of network connections. |
CenterOp Design™ |
A Hekimian system that lets the user specify the type of service required and the end points. It then extracts network element information from CenterOp Activate, maps the service, and presents it for approval. |
CenterOp Flow™ |
Hekimian's OSS for automatic (flowthrough) testing of installation work orders and maintenance trouble reports. |
CenterOp Gateway™ |
A Hekimian customer network management system that allows service providers to seamlessly, automatically deliver and manage today's advanced services across every kind of service, equipment, and supplier within a secure, controlled environment. |
CenterOp Perform™ |
A Hekimian performance monitoring operations support system designed to facilitate management of wholesale Service Level Agreements between providers. |
CenterOp Sentry™ |
A system that performs fault management operations including alarm management, fault localization, and fault correction. |
CenterOp Systems™ |
Hekimian’s new family of TMN-based operations support systems designed to control the fault management and network configuration operations of modern, large-scale telecommunications networks. |
Central office (CO) |
Any network switching system, although usually a local switching system. Sometimes refers to a telephone company building which houses a switching system. |
Central processing unit (CPU) |
The part of the computer that accepts data from outside devices, processes them, and delivers them to storage. It contains the arithmetic and logic unit and the control unit. |
CGN |
Connector Group Network |
CGNC |
Connector Group Network Controller |
Channel |
A transmission path between two points. May refer to a one-way path. When paths in the two directions of transmission are always associated, refers to a two-way path. A channel is usually the smallest subdivision of a transmission system by which a single type of communications service (i.e., voice or data) is provided. In channelized testing, a channel is a single 64-kbps signal. |
Channel bank |
Signal transmission equipment used to combine channels using either time division or frequency division multiplexing |
Channel Service Unit (CSU) |
A unit located on the customer's site that terminates a channel. Used with the customer's logic and timing recovery circuitry. |
Channelized testing |
The isolation and testing of a particular data path out of many such paths included in a conglomerate data signal. |
Checksum |
The sum of a group of data items associated with the group for checking purposes. |

Collection hub |
"A collection point for data from a number of end offices. Data is combined into a single bit stream for transmission back to the hub office. A collection hub does not have test capability |
